About Me

Passion

I love solving problems. The joy of discovery and the beauty in an unexpectedly elegant solution are the things that drive me to pursue the boundary lines of engineering and art.

I started Artifact Engineering in my garage as a way to stay connected to these passions while at home caring for my kids. The furniture I make is designed and tested to withstand two young boy’s climbing and jumping. The name “Artifact” was picked, in part, because I want my pieces to stand the test of time, with an elegant simplicity rooted in durability from an engineering perspective.

I strive for a timeless aesthetic that can act as spaces of peace in the chaos of life.

Precision

Making things “look” simple often requires more work than the initial straightforward approach. Over the years I’ve found that my drive to continue searching is stronger than others. The pursuit of going just one step further is profoundly rewarding. However, I’ve also learned to rely on my family, friends, and colleagues to help point out when perfect is the enemy of good.

At Artifact Engineering, every piece of furniture is designed with care and purpose in CAD first. Multiple iterations will be 3D printed or mocked up at scale, tested, and adjusted again until the end result is something that I would want in my own house.

I manufacture all components personally on a CNC, for maximum precision and repeatability. Each part is then hand sanded, finished, and assembled by me. Doing everything “in-house” helps maintain quality and I enjoy being hands on.

Phamily

Artifact Engineering was founded in 2021. At the time, my wife and I were both working fulltime and the boys were in daycare. That same year my father died, causing me to rethink my priorities.

I quit my job to stay home with the boys, working on the business while they’re in school. It has been a slower start than I anticipated. However, the time has let me focus on my family and my health in a way that I wouldn’t trade for the world.

Thanks for making it to the end. You're invited to join us on this journey. 'Ohana means family.
